WATER DAMAGE, WHAT DO YOU DO?
THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS TO CONSIDER:
HOW MUCH WATER ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?
If there is minimal water damage – three or 4 gallons, you can probably use a shop vacuum to remove the water, then direct large fans at the water damaged area. You should also use a dehumidifier in the room if you have access to one.
If a large area is affected and/or there is an excessive amount of water damage you will need the water professionally removed with a water extractor. The professional will also be able to “float” the carpet and pad and get air circulating underneath.
There is little doubt that water damage is one of the worst things that a home can face for a few reasons. First of all, it’s inconvenient, but we’re going to completely ignore that part in favor of mentioning the structural damage it can do to your home. Sure, wading through water can be a pain, but imagine what it’s doing to your walls! At face value, the water might seem harmless. You clean it up and move on with your life, but depending on how long it was allowed to stand, any number of issues could surface later.
- Wood Rot
- Foundation Damage
The first one we are going to address is mold. It can come in many different types and variations, though arguably, the most feared type is going to be black mold which can cause a serious health hazard. Quite often people are unaware that black mold is actually in their home and if you have experienced flooding then it would be best to assume that it is already forming. As they say, it is better to be safe than sorry.
